WoW from two perspectives

If you want to get a firm vision of World of Warcraft, you have to see it from two perspectives.

Let’s take it from a new player’s perspective. The amount of players at any given area, even with the latest patch, are still surprisingly high; either the old and more seasoned players are creating new avatars or new players are just starting to enjoy the game. Regardless, WoW does not, and should not be regarded as a bad game, but it does leave a lot to be desired when it comes to welcoming new players. Progression can be noted as a lot quicker than other expansions, but players still end up grinding their way through mundane repetitive quests.

Now, let’s take it from the seasoned player’s perspective. It is safe to say that the new Pandaren content hasn’t really added that much experience to the game itself, even with the introduction of the Wandering Isle. The repetitive quests and insane requirements are still present, and there is still nothing new to Blizzard’s certain fetish for letting players grind their way through. The new level cap is Blizzard’s way of saying “You will no longer have a social life unless you become level 90”, and the numerous tweaks that would give room for maximum player efficiency.

The good and the bad

The Mists of Pandaria is a breath of fresh air, after a long and hard-earned battle with Neltharion from the Cataclysm update. There are lots of new quests available, which are both good and bad for new and old players, and the addition of the Pandaren race and the Monk class have added versatility and allowed for a more fluid team composition.

The new Pet Battle system, think like Pokemon, was supposed to be the cherry on top of the icing that is Mists of Pandaria, but apparently it still lacked something.

Whether you’ve played this game before or not, World of Warcraft and its expansions will have you wasting good hours on getting the items that you need and finishing quests that will take you deeper and deeper into the world of Azeroth.

Apple has been continually upgrading its series of iPhone from the first model that was released which is the iPhone first generation. The screen’s dimensions elegantly display larger-format magazines and apps.

The bad: The iPad Mini costs too much, especially considering the lower resolution of its 7.9-inch non-Retina Display. The A5 processor isn’t as robust as the one in the fourth-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Typing on the smaller screen is not quite as comfy.

The bottom line: If you want the full, polished Apple tablet experience in a smaller package, the iPad Mini is worth the premium price. Otherwise, good alternatives are available for less money.

The name Yoga is suggestive of the system’s big selling point, that the display flips fully over to become a tablet. In fact, it has four basic usable positions — clamshell laptop, tablet, stand, and tent.

The reason the Yoga stands out from the suddenly crowded touch-screen laptop scene is that it does something other convertible or hybrid laptops do not. When set up as a traditional laptop, the 13.3-inch Yoga doesn’t compromise the all-important clamshell experience. The excellent double-hinge design means that it looks and works the same as any other ultrabook laptop, unlike the complex and often clunky mechanisms in systems such as the HP Envy x2, Sony Vaio Duo 11, or Dell XPS 12.

The good: The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 looks as good as any 13-inch ultrabook, with the added attraction of a 360-degree screen and a laptop body that can fold into a tent, stand, or slate.

The bad: Tablet mode leaves the keyboard exposed, and the Yoga 13 costs more than standard ultrabooks with similar components.

The bottom line: The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 is a convertible touch-screen laptop/tablet that most importantly doesn’t compromise the traditional laptop experience.

The 2012 MacBook Air no longer stands as the coolest Mac laptop: that crown has been temporarily stolen by the Retina Display MacBook Pro. Nor is it as unusual. However, it still remains the best example of an ultrathin laptop — for its construction quality, performance, and ergonomics.

The 13-inch Air has the same looks as last year, and nearly the same build, with a few key differences: a new third-gen Intel Core i5 processor, USB 3.0 ports (replacing the previous USB 2.0), a higher-def 720p Webcam, and an altered MagSafe 2 charge cable and connector. Also, both 13-inch MacBook Pro models now cost $100 less, bringing the entry-level model with 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) to $1,199, the exact same cost as the 13-inch MacBook Pro. While the new Air doesn’t have Mountain Lion, the next version of OS X, installed, a free upgrade will be made available when it’s released.

The good: The 13-inch MacBook Air has new Intel CPUs, better battery life, and an improved 720p Webcam, and finally adds USB 3.0 ports, while shaving $100 off the price from last year’s models.

The bad: The design, while strong, stays largely the same: there’s no Ethernet port, and the base SSD storage option of 128GB is smaller than a standard hard drive, though common for ultrabooks.

The bottom line: This year’s MacBook Air opts for gradual improvements rather than anything revolutionary, but lowered prices continue to make it the go-to mainstream recommendation for any MacBook owner-to-be.
